WORKSHOP ON LOGICAL FRAMEWORK APPROACH CONCLUDES THE BSU PROJECT

The Capacity Development Team of the Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID) has organized a Capacity Building workshop, for a cross section of stakeholders under the Building Stronger Universities (BSU) Project.

The Building Stronger Universities (BSU) project commenced in 2010 and was rolled out in three phases. The workshop which took place on   4th and 5th October 2023 at the West Africa Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) was the final workshop and concludes thirteen years of capacity building which focused on building the research competencies of early career faculty and strengthening institutional and human resource capacity in research management.

The subject for workshop was “Logical Framework Approach and Result Framework” was attended by a cross section of participants and facilitated the Danish consultants on the BSU project. Participants included academics, students and employee of the Food and Drugs Authority, hospital administrators.

The consultants outlined the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) concept and highlighted trends in project design, planning and management. In addition to outlining strategies for attracting funding, they examined the LFA as a global language that resonates with donors, NGOs and private and public sector players.

Participants undertook group exercises focused on systematic approaches to problem analysis, planning and implementation of projects. They also develop a matrix for project planning and analyzes of change processes. Group exercises undertaken by participants developed models based on a Logical Framework Approach.

Over the past 13 years funding from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) for the BSU project has supported three cohorts of PhD graduates and Masters students as well Post Doctoral Fellows.  Technical assistance and infrastructural support for the research management function have been invaluable.

The Office of Research, Innovation and Development as well as faculty responsible for work packages under the project have gained experiences and built networks with their Danish counterparts which will be of mutual benefit in the future.

The University of Ghana is grateful to DANIDA and the Government of Demark for the support.
