CALL FOR 2018 L’OREAL-UNESCO REGIONAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

The Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID) wishes to inform the university community about the 2018 L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional Fellowships for Women in Science in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Background

The fellowship aims to promote and encourage young African women in Science. Its programmes reward reputable women scientists whose outstanding accomplishments have contributed to the progression of scientific knowledge and of its benefits to the society.

 

Awards

This prestigious programme awards fourteen (14) annual fellowships. Twelve (12) to PhD students enrolled in an African institution,  and two (2) to Post-docs working in a Laboratory or Research Institute registered in one of the region’s countries for a funding amount of €5000 and €10,000 respectively.

 

Eligible Fields

The programme identifies and honours talented young female scientists in the fields of:

  1. Life Sciences (biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, neurosciences, biotechnologies)
  2. Physical Sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, and earth and universe sciences).

Additionally, candidates must be:

  • nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country who have received their PhD in the life or physical sciences or are pursuing studies leading to a PhD degree
  • enrolled or employed in a research university or institution in the region
  • no more than 40 years old by the end of the application period for the PhD fellowship and not more than 45 years for the post-doctoral fellowship.
