ORID Inaugurates Advisory Board

Mrs. Yvette Adounvo Atekpe, on behalf of her Ladyship Justice Sophia A.B Akuffo, (Rtd.), Chairperson, University Council, has inaugurated the Office of Research Innovation and Development (ORID) Advisory Board in pursuant to the vision and mission of the University of Ghana.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, Mrs. Atekpe expressed gratitude to all the board members for accepting the invitation to work and contribute to enhancing the University’s vision of becoming a world-class research-intensive institution. She was confident in the Board’s ability to deliver the mandate as expected of them “so that the University sustains its incremental relevance to industry, national and global development through its research and related activities”.

She said, “We trust that despite the competing obligation of board members, there would be keen commitment to facilitating the Board activities”. Mrs. Atekpe wished them the best of luck.

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, in brief remarks thanked members of the Board for accepting to be part of the Committee and taking their time to be present at the inauguration and its maiden meeting.  Prof. Amfo said, “The primary mandate of ORID is to promote, manage and coordinate research activities across the University…. Today, the University further seeks to project its relevance to industries through research and address the gaps identified by industry’’.

The Vice-Chancellor took the Board through their functions as prescribed in the University’s Statutes and noted that the Board Will engage in high-quality conversation on how to establish the three facets of its function; draw on the University’s network and expertise to raise funds for faculty and student research, and provide a value-driven insight into new and effective ways to realise it functions.

The Board is chaired by Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor. Members of the Board are Prof. Felix A. Asante, Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Research, Innovation and Development (RID); Prof Gordon Awandare, Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA); Prof. George Obeng Adjei, Director of Research (ORID); Mr. Nana Osei Bonsu, CEO, Private Enterprise Federation; Mr. Martin Eson-Benjamin, CEO, Millennium Development Authority of Ghana (MiDA); Mr. Amar Deep Singh Hari, CEO, IPMC; Dr. Angela Lusigi, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in Ghana and Mrs. Jacqueline Benyi, Managing Director, Enterprise Life Assurance.

Present at the ceremony were Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar and Mrs. Elizier T. Buronyah, Director, Public Affairs.
