Date-Bah, Chairman of the University Council, launching the book</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 13.008px; line-height: 1.538em;">The Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID) had launched the 3</span><sup>rd</sup><span style="font-size: 13.008px; line-height: 1.538em;"> edition of the University of Ghana Research Report. The Research Report focuses on innovative research activities, grant awards and related activities during the 2014/2015 academic year.</span></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" src="http://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/images/UG%203RD%20REPORT%202.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 400px;" /></p> <p align="center"><strong><em>Hon. Justice Samuel Date-Bah, Chairman of University Council</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 13.008px; line-height: 1.538em;">The Chairman of the University Council, Hon. Justice S.K. Date-Bah, who also chaired the event, indicated that the prioritisation of research is evident in the University’s ten (10) year strategic plan with a purpose to create a vibrant intellectual climate that stimulates relevant cutting edge research and community engagement. He emphasized that even though the University is not yet at the halfway mark in its strategic plan, evidence of the strides that are being made are beginning to manifest in all spheres. Infrastructural development coupled with the recent restructuring of PhD programmes, and a host of policies, he stated, are yielding good results, which is evidenced in the University’s position in world university rankings.</span></p> <p align="center"><img alt="" src="http://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/images/UG%203RD%20REPORT%203.png" style="width: 600px; height: 400px;" /></p> <p align="center"><strong style="font-size: 13.008px; line-height: 1.538em;"><em>Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor University of Ghana</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 13.008px; line-height: 1.538em;">In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, stated that the research report clearly indicates the diversity of research activity going on at the University of Ghana. He further mentioned that University of Ghana has been invited to join the 19 member World University Network and currently involved in 16 different projects. Prof. Aryeetey encouraged faculty members to take advantage of such collaborations, especially at a time when research at UG has been increasingly acknowledged worldwide. He further indicated that the university rankings have become increasingly competitive and the challenge now is for University of Ghana to maintain the record.</span></p> <p align="center"><img alt="" src="http://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/images/UG%203RD%20REPORT%204.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 400px;" /></p> <p align="center"><strong><em>Prof. John Gyapong, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation &amp; Development</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The Pro-Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. John Gyapong who gave an overview of the 204-page report stated that the report is meant to communicate research undertaken in the University to the ordinary person in simple terms. He indicated that ORID has the mandate to create the enabling environment for research to strive, especially in the areas of ethics, intellectual property and technology transfer, research misconduct among others.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Prof. Gyapong mentioned that total grants received for 2014-15 amounted to GHS 181,893,670.22.  He briefed the audience on portions of the report, noting that it captures 12 major donor agencies, 26 partner institutions and 7 major cutting- edge research areas. He called on the Colleges to do more editing at the college level before submission to reduce the time spent on editing the document.</p> <p align="center"><img alt="" src="http://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/images/UG%203RD%20REPORT%205.png" style="width: 600px; height: 401px;" /></p> <p align="center"><strong><em>Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, Director for Research (ORID)</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, Director for Research at ORID, in brief remarks, mentioned that the research report has become the mouth piece for communicating research findings to stakeholders and such initiative by the University is now being emulated by some sister universities in the country. This he said, clearly shows that the University of Ghana is in the lead in Ghana and the sub-region in terms of research.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" src="http://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/images/UG%203RD%20REPORT%206.jpg" style="width: 600px; height: 400px;" /></p> <p align="center"><strong><em> Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Provost College of Humanities</em></strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Provost of the College of Humanities who reviewed the research report mentioned that there have been significant improvements in the 3<sup>rd</sup> edition. He indicated that the report has been organised according to colleges which reflects the University’s administrative structure. Going forward, Prof. Adjei-Mensah suggested that research activities in institutes and centres should be captured under their various colleges within which they operate.
