Overview
The Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID)
was established by the University Council in October 2009 to
promote, coordinate and facilitate research activities at the
University of Ghana and lead in the development of strategic
and business plans and fundraising of the university. It
began operations in the 2010/2011 academic year. The main
responsibilities of ORID include:
• Developing and implementing the University’s
research policy;
• Fund-raising for research;
• Ensuring effective distribution and efficient use of
research funds in line with priority areas identified in the
University’s strategic plan;
• Setting standards and ensuring effective dissemination
of high quality research output;
• Representing the interests of the University in
contractual relationships; grant applications and
reporting;
• Administering contract research;
• Establishing systems for ethical clearance registration;
• Patenting and commercialisation of intellectual
property.
It has since absorbed the functions of the Research and
Conferences Committee, Publications Board, External Funds
Office, Consultancy Unit and the Research Administration
Unit.
