Call for Applications: 28TH KHWARIZMI INTERNATIONAL AWARD (KIA)

The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in collaboration with the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) is inviting applications for the "28^th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA)".

The KIA was instituted in 1987 by the joint efforts of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST)in memory of the achievements of Muhammad Ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, the Iranian mathematician and astronomer.  This award is organized annually to recognize outstanding scientific achievements made by Researchers, Inventors and Innovators from all over the world and to appreciate their invaluable achievements and contributions to various fields of science and technology.

The eligible fields of participation for this award include:

•  Aerospace                                          Engineering (all fields)                                    Medical Sciences
•  Agriculture                                         Information Technology                                 Nanotechnology
•  Basic Sciences                                    Material Sciences                                            Renewable Energy
•  Biotechnology                                    Mechatronics 

COVERAGE/ VALUE OF AWARD

For the last session i.e. the 27^th KIA, the award comprised the following:

      i.  A cash amount of $10000 for 1^st place, $8000 for 2^nd place and $5000 for 3^rd place;

      ii.  A Trophy;

      iii. KIA Certificate with the proper information about the recipient of the award signed by H.E. The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and

      iv. Recognition at a special award ceremony. (International travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses of the KIA Laureates are covered by the KIA).

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for this award, candidate must be:

• A scientist from one of the fields of participation indicated above.
• In the position to submit completed research works that fall within Applied Research, Fundamental Research, Research & Development, and Invention & Innovation.
• Willing to participate in the award ceremony for the presentation of the KIA in Tehran to be held in February 2015. (Not participating in the award ceremony cancels automatically the presentation of the KIA and the designation "KIA Laureate")
• An individual researcher or representative of research team (no special recommendation or nomination is requested).

NB: Eligibility for the KIA is not excluded by previous Prizes awarded to the applicant.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications can be made in two ways:

1. Interested applicants either completes the online application form by clicking on apply Online  or  
2. Download and complete the Application Form which must be submitted electronically   via email to Khwarizmi@irost.ir.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applications to be considered must satisfy the following:

         i. Submitted and typed in English only;

        ii. Include a completed Research work explaining the subject, aim of the research work, the process and the steps it followed until its completion, the results and how the research work has been;

        iii. E-mail submission must have the candidate’s name and "28th KIA", in the subject line of the email;

      iv. Applications with voluminous attachments may be sent in a CD format indicating the name of the applicant, one CD for each application along with copies of Sections I and II of the application form, in hard copy to the  air-mail address below:

 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION

The deadline for submission of applications is MONDAY NOVEMBER 10, ‏2014.

The successful 2015 KIA Laureates will be announced in the 2nd Week of January, 2015 and the award ceremony will take place in February 2015.
